AG informs Speaker he cannot comment on PM post

Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has informed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that he cannot comment on the legality of the post of Prime Minister. The Speaker had sought the advise of the Attorney General on who is legally the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka after a political crisis arose last week. The AG has however told the Speaker he feels it is inappropriate to give advise on that matter.

Along with other key international partners of Sri Lanka, the Ambassador of the European Union Monday have met with the President Maithripala Sirisena, to express their expectation that a solution respectful of the country's constitution would be found quickly, a statement by the spokesperson on the situation in Sri Lanka said.
