Inflation rises to 5.4% in May

Sri Lanka’s overall inflation, measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), increased to 5.4% in May 2026 from 4.7% recorded in April, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.


Food inflation rose to 1.5% from 1.1%, while non-food inflation increased to 8.6% from 7.8% during the same period.

3 killed, 10 injured in 7-vehicle accident in Kegalle

3 have been killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Molagoda, Kegalle. According to reports, a bus had attempted to overtake another vehicle, colliding with two trishaws, a motorbike as well as with two vans of a driving school that had remained on the roadside. Two in a van and one in a trishaw had succumbed in this accident.



IMF staff to visit Sri Lanka from June 24 to 30

A staff delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from June 24 to 30.
