National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa has warned Ranil Wickremesinghe to leave Temple Trees by 8am tomorrow. Weerawansa told reporters today that if Wickremesinghe fails to leave then the public will be forced to put him out. The Parliamentarian said that the international community want a crisis situation to take place in Sri Lanka and that should not happen. This decision has been taken due to several political parties including the TNA planning to stage Maveerar Day events in many areas during next month to commemorate family members who had sacrificed their lives during the war.Sources said some Parties have even planned to commemorate fallen LTTE cadres during Maveerar Week, prompting Police to keep its cadres on standby.Already, the TNA has declared Maveerar Week to be commemorated from 21 to 27 November.

Alleged assassination plot: DIG Nalaka arrested

Former Head of the Terrorist Investigation Division DIG Nalaka Silva, who is accused of having conspired to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, was arrested by the CID yesterday evening.Silva was taken into custody after five days of interrogation.The DIG was produced before Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne last night. He was remanded till Nov 07. Self-styled anti-corruption activist Nalaka Kumarage, addressing the media a few weeks ago, revealed the alleged the plot to kill the President and former Defence Secretary.

New constitution: Second interim report on Nov.7?

The second interim report of the new constitution is to be presented to the Constitutional Assembly by the steering committee on Nov. 7, top government sources said yesterday. A senior official attached to the Constitutional Assembly told Daily Mirror that a document was due to reach them on November 7, but declined to reveal what the document would be. However, the Daily Mirror learns from reliable sources that the document referred to is the second interim report on the new constitution. The dates for debate on the report will be decided later according to sources.


Gayantha denies Prez-PM dispute

The Colombo Magistrate (Court No. 3) yesterday remanded, till today, second in command of the Sampur Navy camp Lt Commander Sampath Dayananda, charged with the abduction of a businessman from Kotahena and a Municipal employee. The suspect was arrested by the CID yesterday. The victims, Pakkilisamy Loganathan and G.K. Ratnasamy, were abducted on January 11, 2009. They were residents of Kotahena and Wanathamulla.
